Happy New Year 2010!!! With one of our children in China, the New Year began quite a few hours ago! It reached New York a little over an hour ago with lots of fun and Auld Lang Syne and confetti and dropping the blue time ball! God has been so good and we love Him and worship and praise Him! Watching Moody Science Films from our New Hope library was part of our day and God is awesomely brilliant and creative and so good to us. What an Example and Savior and Friend in Jesus and what a Helper and Counselor in the Holy Spirit!

Welcome to our 2009 Bowdoin Bulletin! With Facebook and Messenger and Gmail and Gmail chat and cell phones we are all in so much better contact. So if I miss a highlight or two, just check one of the other message boards. Jonathan & Kathie toured Scotland and England this Fall while Collin was working hard in 1st grade, Kate was enjoying Kindergarten, and Tyler was enjoying Grandma Long. Jon continues at Deloitte and Kathie is a stay-at-home Mom with three lively children. David is busy at New Hope teaching Biology and Computer classes and coaching crosscountry and track and keeping www.Athletic.net up-to-date. There is more to running a track meet than meets the eye. Dave & Susanna Brown have had a busy year keeping up with all the websites they make and taking care of a big garden, 4 horses, and their Bonanza ranch. They are right now in Tennessee to work on getting pictures for one of their horse websites. David & Priscilla Dutton relocated to Vancouver Washingt

Yes, if I were Michelle Duggar, I would like to find my oldest two their spouse! That would mean three married and only 16 at home! Then just pair them up, like they do (I have their book and love reading about them since we have 8 children, 4 married) and it would be more like having 8! God bless the Duggars, and God bless the Bowdoins! And He has, and is!

The Days of Praise booklet for December 6, 2009: Eternal Responsibilities Eternal ResponsibilitiesDecember 6, 2009 "And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him." (Revelation 22:3) Frequently, Christians and non-Christians alike have a misconception about the nature of the coming life in heaven. We will not merely "go to heaven" and sit around in some semblance of holy laziness; we will be given jobs to do! Just what those jobs may be, or what they may require, is not specifically revealed to us, but it is abundantly clear that the kind of job, or the degree of responsibility, will be a privilege based on what we do here on earth now. In the parable of the pounds (Luke 19:11-27), the Lord Jesus illustrates judgment based on productivity. The same amount of money was given to each of the servants, and only one general instruction was issued: "Occupy till I come" (v. 13). The reward

Thankful for a nice Thanksgiving time. Our three college boys, Daniel & Christen, Benjy, and Jacob, are on their way back to Western Oregon University, Oregon State University, and Corban College respectively. Christen, Dan's wife, just got her MAT from Willamette University in May this year and is now teaching 3rd grade! She also plays the piano very well and they just got a piano! David teaches here at New Hope after 5 years at OIT in Klamath Falls in Software Engineering. Jonathan is an accountant with Deloitte and Touche in Portland. Joshua is teaching English at a University in China. Susanna & Priscilla make websites after getting degrees in Management Information Technology and Art/Graphic Design. Their husbands Dave Brown and David Dutton work in Computer and Laser Engineering. Praise God for our wonderful family! And praise God Who is and Who was and Who is to come.

Thanksgiving Week. Believers have thanksgiving lives. Thanksgiving all day every day! It is very good to have special times set for thanksgiving and I love Thanksgiving. Hopefully it is also so much a part of our lives that Thanksgiving in November is a special part of our already ongoing thankfulness in our hearts. I challenged myself to write a lot of thanks on a small sticky note this morning - and got three lines of ten. It could be ten lines of 3oo for 3,000, or 100 lines of 300 for 30,000, or 1,000 lines of 300 for (adding zeroes) 300,000, or 10,000 lines of 300 for 3,000,000, or 100,000 lines of 300 for 30,000,000, or 1,000,000 lines of 300 for 300,000,000, or 10,000,000 lines of 300 for 3,000,000,000 (3 billion), or 30,000,000,000 lines of 300 for 3,000,000,000,000 (3 trillion), or ... Happy Birthday Jonathan! God gave us Jonathan Terell, our first child, on a Friday evening/Saturday morning early in our marriage. Terell was finishing his bachelor degree at Southern Oregon University majoring in Biology and minoring in Outdoor Education. His dream was to teach at New Hope Christian School. He applied to New Hope and was accepted to teach, not Biology since they had a science teacher, but Math. Robert Giddings, Principal of New Hope, hired him. One of my dreams was to have a big family. Another dream was to have our children born at home. God said yes to the first dream and no to the second one. As I labored to have Jonathan, the bearing down part which can take a few minutes turned into over two hours and thankfully he was born safely by Caesarean. The Lord is good! And he was beautiful! We were so thrilled and enjoyed every minute of our firstborn! No one believes us when we tell them about him saying "hi" to us when he was 6 weeks old! We sa

And today is David Martin Bowdoin's birthday! Brother for Jonathan Terell, 3 years old on November 22, who was so happy and thought they should start playing right away! A delightful baby who initially looked so red that people looking through the window into the nursery thought he was a little international baby - possibly French! And indeed our name, Bowdoin, is from France. So they were somewhat correct. Howard Main's wife Mandy was born on the same day so we could say they go way back! David almost immediately began taking things apart - evidence of his gifting in how things work - and then as he grew bigger he started putting them back together! He figured out that the little people in the cute little cars and buses also fit well on the ends of his fingers. So much fun!

And my Dad worked a number of years with dairy cows, Holsteins. He was 5 lbs. underweight for the war - something like 145 and 6' 2". Plus he and his brothers were selling milk to White City to the CCC and they called each day for the order - like 800 quarts a day. So he was needed here. The dairy was on D Street from present day Penneys to Beacon Drive. And while I was really little we moved to Los Angeles so he could attend the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, present day Biola University. Then we had a Bible Bookstore here in Grants Pass in the front of our house. He preached at Merlin Baptist Church and Jerome Prairie Bible Church. He worked with his brothers on a big farm in Cave Junction where I enjoyed a lot of cousin times and helped herd the cows in each evening. And later he became a real estate realtor and greatly enjoyed getting listings and selling houses. And all along he was a carpenter, learned as a boy, and enjoyed many building projects, 6 houses, re

Happy Birthday to my Dad, Harold Francis Martin!!! He is 89 years old today. He was born on November 17, 1920, in Rogue River, Oregon. His Dad, George Paulin Martin, was born in Jamaica in 1886 of missionary parents who came to Jamaica from Scotland. The Martin home where my Dad was born is about a half mile from the bridge on Rogue River Highway, Highway 99. It is on the right. They had a barn on the river side until a flood took it down the river. My Dad is the fourth boy of five boys, James, Robert, George, Harold, Edward. I think Daddy was the tallest, or second tallest. Uncle Bob was really tall also. Grandma Frances Martin was a teacher/Principal at Rogue River Elementary before staying home with the big family of boys! And today we cousins keep in touch via Facebook! Cousins from each of the boys are on Facebook except for Uncle Bob's branch (as far as I know) so we are hoping for them soon. And I learned from Terell's Dad that we only call God our Fat

My friend Sue Bradshaw says her year ends in October. I see that is really how it is since it takes time to do the many year-end things. Plus Thanksgiving time is always so special and Christmas time for sure! So God bless us as we reflect on His many blessings - He blesses us and hopefully we bless Him and everyone. Our tithe is one basic thank you to Him and others. And our offerings also.

Families are so much fun! We got to spend these four days with our kids. Here are some high points: 1. Visiting with Priscilla. David & Priscilla's plants LOVE them. If a plant enters their house, it immediately grows about an inch a day. The Christmas cactus is usually covered with flowers. The African violets have so many blossoms it is incredible. I saw two little fir trees on the kitchen sink awaiting their turn. Wow. So what is the matter with my plants? 2. Visiting with Benjy. Third floor of Sigma Epsilon. Online test in Organic Chemistry. Fun at Priscilla's for us playing Scattergories. Taking pictures. Getting lectures not to take pictures. :) 3. Fun at Daniel & Christen's. Everyone on laptops. Hahahahaha! My laptop won't receive the signal, I keep trying. Benjy puts comedian Brian Something on his and we laugh and laugh! 4. Watching Jacob run CrossCountry in Springfield. The top ten for his

I hope we look for ways to please God like we look for ways to please people. I hope we want to please Him. I hope we are grateful for all He does for us. I hope we appreciate the beautiful sunrise, the fog above the river, the lovely tree so patiently standing there for so long, the wonderful waterfall, the smile of a baby, the delight of cool fresh air, the beauty of snow, the smell and taste of fresh coffee, the detail of a flower, the loyalty of a dog, the friendship of a cat, the companionship of your spouse, the joy of your children, the comfort of the Holy Spirit, the laughter of a friend, a sermon well studied and preached from the heart, the helpfulness of cell phones, the blessing of facebook, a good gmail chat, a nice email, the privilege of prayer, the wonder of salvation, the protection of angels, the enjoyment of writing, the creativity of music, the power of the ocean, the care of our Father God, the daily work of I AM, the Sun, the Moon, the awesome stars.

Pocket calendars for 2010 are so nice to have! Staples had them for a number of years - and with eight children I made good use of them. Then they went to a larger version and it would not fit in your pocket. So I looked in catalogs and online to no avail. Finally I made my own from whatever paper I had and wrote in the date. Then - God blessed my hopes - they came out with a pocket size daily/monthly calendar for desk use which I have easily adapted to pocket use by dividing into months and adding a nice cover from some of the wonderful graphics on publications. So if you are interested, let me know. beaudoinma@gmail.com

Interesting thoughts at church today. Always food for thought later, huh. How do we, the redeemed, live before God to have enduring happiness and blessing. By loving Him, the One who loves us, which includes worshipping Him. This from Deuteronomy 6:1-25. And thinking it over later I felt that loving others is tied totally to this. Then the verse about loving God and loving others came to my mind.

Sunday tomorrow. When we were going to Murphy Chapel - 15 years - Pastor Anderson and Mr. Lloyd met every Saturday evening for prayer. I noticed that and like that. We all should do that. My husband and I have had Friday night prayer meetings at 9pm in the past. I loved it. We have not done that recently and I hope we get back to that. Or Saturday evening.

Trying to switch gears. Just made bread and it raised nicely! We always eat the first loaf right away, buttered and honeyed, and I usually give a loaf to someone, my Mom or Dad or... This time it is half for Aunt Mabel and half for David. This week I didn't buy store bread which I usually get 4 loaves - used to always need a dozen a week! And I think the 4 loaves of homemade bread will last until next Thursday when I plan to make it again. So we will see. Did not switch gears.

Are you a Duck or a Beaver? We are Beavers of course with two of my brothers going to Oregon State University, Larre and Bruce, and two of our sons going to OSU, Joshua and Ben. Josh graduated summa cum laude in civil engineering in 2008. Ben is a junior this year in pre-med and studying hard. So we are Beavers. But we should also be ducks. Not UofO ducks, but ducks of a different type. If someone is unkind, we should do our best to be a duck and let it slide off our back like water off a duck's back! So let's be both beavers (if you can be!) and ducks!

Integrity and Consistency Share Monday, September 28, 2009 at 9:31pm I'm doing a Bible study on the book of Daniel that was written by Beth Moore. Here's an excerpt from Week 1, Day 5. I really wanted to share this with you, so I tagged you in it! love, Tammy "I don't know any other way to say this, and goodness knows I learned it the hard way: godliness is never accidental. Neither is victory coincidental. Both stem from up-front, daily resolve. C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y The lifeblood of integrity is becoming the same person no matter where we are--no matter who's around. When we become people of integrity, everything we are on the inside is obvious from the outside. The Latin word for "integrity" literally means "entire." The essence of the term is wholeness and completeness. Integrity is "the quality or state of being complete or undivided." You can see, therefore, how much integrity depends on consistency. Integrity not only calls

I have a Susan story. When I was growing up, my nickname was Susie. About 50% of the time my Mother called me Susie. I loved it. And I named my first daughter Susanna. I had a friend in college named Susan from Hacienda Heights :) and a Sue mentor from Grants Pass :) and a Susanna friend from Switzerland, Schweiz, and also enjoyed the name and my nickname! So how could we not choose it. If our first child Jonathan had been a girl, he would have been Susanna! So my Mom, my daughter Susanna, and myself are at a cute little restaurant and we bow our heads to thank the Lord for the food. My Mom says, Susie, will you pray? And Susanna and I both proceed to start praying. Immediately we all burst out laughing! What fun! Finally one of us prayed and we enjoyed our meal and time together!

Incredibly fun, busy week! Included taking my Dad to Grants Pass's latest new restaurant, Taprock! Taprock is right on the Rogue River and is very nice. He spent most of the time examining the different woods used on the walls and framing. My husband spent most of his time looking at the salmon swimming by - I have never seen that many fish at once in the river. Today I made bread for Jacob at his request - which was nice - I am a breadmaker since before I had a family thanks to my Mom, some friends who made bread, and a summer of SIL (Summer Institute of Linguistics) with one of the teachers making bread for us every Thursday evening! I found it a delightful part of life and have included it since then. I wrote about bread already and will probably write about it again. Helping our Aunt with some special needs was also part of our week. She is so much better. And I am looking forward to making some scarves with some burgundy silk I found.

Learning the gmail chat. I like the messenger chat and have done that several years but this one includes more people / i understand the setup better. Seems like on technology I get part of it and keep learning. Took computer classes at New Hope back in the Dos days :) and into the Windows days, 6 week courses, PowerPoint, Excel, Word. Learning on your own. Some computer classes at Rogue Community College, assignments that stretch you, making some PowerPoint presentations, watching my kids - very good at the computer, a Library Research class at Rogue that was well done and showed me a ton of ways to access info.

Dishes. The great leveler. Yesterday we had to defrost the combination frig/freezer since something in back is plugged, according to the repairman on the phone. So even though we keep up on dishes and yes I have had a number of dishwashers and do not like them since you get to scrape and rinse and then load and they don't fit and you do two loads and the big things in the sink - no thank you, please!! So today there are extra dishes. And refrigerator shelves. So part of this day will definitely be on dishes. Sorry we are not talking stars! And no it is not me in the picture - but close enough. Nice to visit Parkway Christian Center. I really enjoyed the worship group with some brass in it along with Sharee Luce at the piano. Sharee has taught some of our children's piano lessons and is a concert pianist, having performed in Europe. She practices a lot and our son Ben came to me and said he would like to see her give a concert! I was so pleased he could tell how good she is. She teaches piano and strings here at New Hope and accompanies the various choirs. And the saxophone and clarinet both by the same person were wonderful. And the message on prayer was great. I am reading a book on prayer by David Jeremiah, The Prayer Matrix. I just finished it, only 86 pages.

Trees. Oak trees. I love oak trees. :) We had beautiful oak trees around our house when I was growing up. My husband bought two nice oak trees for me several years ago that we planted in our front yard. They are about 30 feet tall now! And there are also a number of them growing up here at New Hope. I walked to the mailbox and saw a nice one that is probably 20 feet tall. Here is the oldest known oak tree called the Seven Sisters Oak in Lewisburg, Mandeville, Louisiana. It is over 1,000 years old.

Fun family time with Cousins Gary and Mary. They work in the 4-H and Ag area and know a ton about farming, growing grains, farm equipment, cattle, sheep, goats, being the 7th generation on their lovely farm. The US has a yearly conference and it is in Portland this year. They have sold almost all of their 10 cute golden retriever puppies. Their oldest, Jennie, is married with three children, second, Becky, is teaching nursing, and youngest, Mitch, is a sophomore at Ohio State - also known as OSU. They loved getting to walk around New Hope and see some of the classrooms, computer lab with the new flatscreen monitors, the nice landscaping, the playground, the observatory. Ben and David also enjoyed visiting with them!

Good Morning! Second day of fire-fighting for Ben. It is up in the Evans Valley area near Rogue River and was started by lightning. He gets to work with his long-time friend Luke Ward. Hope they get it under control soon. Third week of September. Wow. School is progressing. School is such a blessing. Some of the little kids out in Vanuatu that Jacob got to be with do not have school. School is so much fun. Some kids did have school there. All kids should have school. All kids should get to read and write. And some of them did not have shoes. I am still hoping we can send some shoes. All of us could do that.

He did so well that he was made one of the leaders of the kids in the training. He was so excited! We took him to get just the right boots and everything he needed. He worked at school while waiting to see if they needed him. Thank the good Lord that there weren't very many fires this summer. One time he did get called but the fire was under control before the group actually got there, so he came back. So glad he had the job at New Hope, and he has been a really good help. Uncle Dave Olson was here for the summer teaching at Pacific Bible College in Medford and he also was a tremendous help on school things. Had to leave this morning at 4:15am to go join Mike Jones crew. So God bless Benjy and all you kids out there fighting the fires.

If you don't have a dove, get one. They are so nice to have. Mine was found over at Farmers Building Supply looking for a home. He was even free. The cage we have wasn't free and the feed isn't free, but he is worth having for the peace and niceness he adds to our home. He begins softly cooing around 5:45am, according to the light usually. Once in awhile if the dog barks at night he responds to Shadow with a friend song. And he doesn't make you wish he would stop singing. He loves it if I play the piano - music is one of his gifts. He has different songs. And sometimes he looks like he is showing off. I open his cage about once a day and let him fly for awhile. He loves sitting in the bathroom window. Sometimes when he is done flying for the day he returns to his cage on his own. Otherwise we let him know it is time. Only once did we accidentally pull out his tail feathers while trying to get him to return to his cage. And the feathers have grown back.

May 2002 Terell, me, Josh, Daniel, Benjy, and Jacob got to visit New York City as part of our Spelling Bee trip to Washington DC. The street near the towers was filled with people. The boys and Terell lined up to walk closer. I went across the street, being already close enough, and began to cry. Obviously that was not my plan. It was just so sad. A young boy selling candy for $1 came by and I said it must have been pretty bad. He gave a look of agony. I bought a candy bar. Possibly that helped. The boys returned, deciding not to keep waiting. We walked along the momentos. Our hearts ached also. Thank You God for caring for us so much.

Xin Chao! (Vietnamese) Outside again - so beautiful - I can see my Aunt Milly's cows from here. God bless and coordinate our day - yours and mine! I started called the Holy Spirit the Holy Coordinator when I was working in the school office. Again and again just the person we needed to see would walk in. Again when I was teaching the 4th grade I saw Him coordinating and helping me coordinate the day.

9/9/9 or 09/09/09 Kind of fun! KLOV is right on this! 88.7 FM in this area. Joshua was actually born at 21:21 pm. They told me not to push between contractions but I pushed anyway and it only took 10 minutes - the bearing down part. This does not mean you should do that, I didn't always with some of the other kids, but there is a time. Back to today :) Am looking for some blogs from some of you. Facebook is great for touching base - not so much for writing more. I have written since a kid - this is nice since it is shared. Rogue Community College is great for taking classes. I recently took 24 credits over there. The computer classes were great. Josiah Dean is very like David - good at computers way back / punch cards, etc. David came in a little after that and made a computer to take to the Josephine County Fair when he was about 10. Made.

Good Morning! It is beautiful out here on the New Hope lawn watching parents bringing their kids to school. The bus just drove up. This summer our son David who teaches here took the bus training and studied a lot and got his bus certification! Melanie Molthan is the regular route driver and is such a great worker! David is teaching and coaching and wanted to be able to drive sometimes when needed. We have drivers such as Sue Bars and Steve Barker who are busy on other jobs also.

Labor Day. Actually should be named non-Labor Day. :) A few years ago I was actually in labor on Labor Day. Quite appropriate but at the time I did not really see the humor in it. Especially when the labor stopped. And started about a week later. And stopped. And started about a week later. And stopped. And started about a week later. And kept on! And Joshua Michael was born September 30th! Praise God! And right on time!

Lovely Sunday in September. Three cute little boys in front of us in church with their grandpa and grandma. Having a little more time is nice for awhile - to do things that need done. Lightning could strike at any time though! :) When He had brought about the purgation of sins, He took his seat at the right hand of Majesty on high, raised as far above the angels as the title he has inherited is superior to theirs. Hebrews 1:3b-4

I have wanted to write out Hebrews little by little. It has a lot about who Jesus is and what faith in Him is. It has a ton about a lot of people you and I are going to be talking to someday. When in former times God spoke to our forefathers, He spoke in fragmentary & varied fashion through the prophets. But in this final age He has spoken to us in the Son whom He has made heir to the whole universe, & through whom He created all orders of existence: the Son who is the effulgence of God's splendor & the stamp of God's very being, & sustains the universe by his word of power. Hebrews 1:1-3a

How funny! Just got off the phone to Jacob - busy with having a cross country pancake breakfast, classes, etc. He usually has his phone on vibrate in class but had the ring tone on and also set to a really different tone and I called him! I don't know his schedule yet. So anyway, he was good about it and said he had a funny story to tell me. :) We don't have school today. Playing catch up. It is wonderful to play catch up. Will take awhile.

We have a Cross Country Meet here at New Hope today so Terell & David are extra busy, and have been before this. Petersons graded the track so that is nice! We will be serving hamburgers grilled on the barbeque. ESL class is interesting. My SIL background - one summer of study at the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the University of North Dakota - gives me a different approach - I want to first look at their language and how it works and then come back to English and teach from there. Every language is different. Just looking at the book and the next sentence doesn't come anywhere near being how I look at it. Obviously the ideal is not totally possible to start with but I will be working toward that. Josh would understand totally. I just need to look at Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese since we have kids from those countries. :)

Swimming is so great! I am so glad I learned to swim when I was a kid! I was really not a good swimmer at first but I kept working at it after I was done with lessons. Finally I started to get better and better. During my first year of college at Biola I took a Lifeguard swimming course for PE and got my Lifeguard certificate. One of my accomplishments in swimming was swimming underwater the entire width of the Caveman Pool! It has been interesting and fun to help our eight children learn to swim! Terell & I did a lot of helping them and letting them work on it in between playing in the water. We took them to swim lessons at the Caveman, swim lessons with Vic and Winnie Fedosky, swim lessons at Mryna Shaneyfelts, swim lessons at the Y, and fun times at various times. Myrna was their favorite teacher. She has a nice pool right beside her house and it is just right for Moms &/or Dads to bring the kids and watch their little ones while she teaches the bigger ones.

Good Afternoon/Guten Tag! Here I am in New Hope's computer lab - our awesome computer lab! A parent gave new flat-screen monitors and they look so nice! Thank you, dear parents, and thank You, dear God! And thank you, Jacob, for showing me how to do this blog. New Hope begins tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1st. Last night I made 4 loaves of the Amish Friendship Bread so took some over to the office for the hungry busy teachers! Also took some to Highland House for the hungry busy nurses. I have four sourdough starters to the first four hungry takers! The crockpot is busy getting tonight's supper with split peas, salami, and everything adding up in the refrigerator. The dove is enjoying flying. I just copied something I wrote awhile back about Jesus as the Bread of life to put with the recipe for the friend bread. And now I plan to make whole wheat bread, full of vitamins and good things - molasses, honey, olive oil, freshly ground whole wheat. Our wheat grinder, an E

Good Morning! Just wanted to share with you all God's goodness to Jacob and us in his new-to-him nice car! Susanna's husband Dave found it online and he is especially good at Subarus. He & Suzy each have one and he found one for Daniel and now for Jacob! Today Terell & I go up to Corban for the Parent-Student Days.
