Bowdoin Bulletin 2011
Dear Family & Friends Much Loved Far & Near J
As I sit here by the warm fire at our heritage home with
Terell reading about Tim Tebow on his phone, we greet you all with love and our
2011 Bowdoin Bulletin. I am blessed to
receive the first Christmas letters from Sheldon & Judy Shaw and John &
Susan Harrigan and decided to take a break from other things to sit down and
share with you.
Four of our children have traveled to/been in other
countries this year:
Jonathan &
Kathie made a business trip to London and Paris in September. It is always a special time. They even spotted a leopard scarf for me J.
Joshua is
teaching English in China. He will be
home for Christmas J
Yay! It is 15 hours ahead of our time
where he is, so if it is 5pm here it is 8am the next day over there. I am pretty good at the time thing usually.
Benjamin did a
medical internship through Oregon State in Ecuador January through March. Su Espanol es muy bien. He got to see a lot of Ecuador and worked
alongside the Spanish doctors. Chone is
along the coast, a city of 100,000, and the Andes mountains rise to 25,000
feet. Ben & his friend Abe and several
others climbed to 15,500 on Mt. Pichincha J.
Jacob went to
Uganda through Corban University with Study Abroad. He stayed with a nice family of 9 boys and 1
girl while attending Uganda Christian University. Taata raises chickens for their living and they
have 3,000 from baby chicks to market size, not dealing with eggs. Maama cooks a lot. Jacob ran with the track team and I guess
they are really fast! J They practiced at 6:30am. He enjoyed being on the Nile River. He kept us up with pictures on Facebook.
Our 2010-2011 school year at New Hope was very busy as
usual. Terell taught 8 years of Math
& Science at New Hope and progressed
into being Principal and then Administrator for 24 years. We
love New Hope. This summer he handed the
reins over to Ernie Stone, our capable secondary Principal. We are transitioning into working with wood
and will soon have our website up at www.BowdoinWoodcrafts.yolasite.com J
Wood is fun but we like noise! Kids are fun and we have loved raising our
family at New Hope.
We decided to reroof our new-to-us home, my parents home, at
2024 SE Marlen Drive. It took about
three weeks and lots of help. Thank you
to Dave & Karen Olson, Todd Bowman, Ben and David Bowdoin, Corey &
Cobey Giesler, Dave & Susanna Brown, David & Priscilla Dutton, Terell
& me. And thank you to Farmers
Building Supply for their excellent service & supplies.
Terell’s sisters were here in September, Sharon from Spain
and Karen & David from Alberta Canada.
David and Karen stayed through October and we all had nice visits. Aunt Mabel loves having more family closer
and so do we J. It was interesting one Sunday to find out
that Pastor Fred Schmidt did not realize that Aunt Mabel was really our Aunt,
being Terell’s mother’s sister! Having
taught at New Hope, he had assumed it was just a polite title.
A special thank you to our SOWER friends Bill and Carrie
Russell and Dennis and Annette Harris for the beautiful job they did on our white
picket fence! It looks excellent. Also the Serve Grants Pass team for the
awesome help they gave New Hope, including moving a piece of our fence back 5
feet for when the new track is set in with more lanes. Also thank you to Jerry and Lynne Sheckell,
also SOWERS, who even came a week early to look for projects that needed
done. They fixed the gates for the horse
field and installed some lights for the path from the court to the school among
other things. Yay!
I have a little job babysitting at Calvary Crossroad Church
and have enjoyed meeting a lot of young moms and caring for their babies and
preschoolers. It is nice to have a small
part in raising the new crop of kids.
They start learning how to use cell phones really young, as in 13
months!
We have been blessed with our 17 years in the Duplex
home. Jacob was 3 years old when we
moved there. God is good. I especially loved painting the rooms and
planting seven trees. The sunrise is
always beautiful there.
Reading Matthew in the Amplified Bible I was interested to
see Jesus genealogy. Watch this
detail. God carefully picked the man who
would shepherd Jesus through childhood,
Joseph. I turned to Luke where I
thought Jesus’s earthly lineage through Mary was given. It was Joseph again. Fairly puzzled and not having our study books
on hand (I should have looked online!) I thought about how cool that God and
Jesus honored Jesus’ earthly father this way.
We are to honor our parents and Jesus set quite an example.
I think this coming year I will aim at writing more
often.
God bless each of you.
Terell and Marilyn Bowdoin and Family
